The Computer Controlled Biomedical Ultrasound Thermal Effects Teaching Unit, “BIUTEC”, consists of a professional therapeutic ultrasound machine and a biological tissue simulator, composed of three different material layers with a thermocouple in each one.

The simulator’s materials have similar acoustic properties to the human skin, soft tissue and bone with the aim of study the thermal effect produced by ultrasound therapy. Besides, the unit is supplied with different applicators to study the effect of the emitting area.

This Computer Controlled Unit is supplied with the EDIBON Computer Control System (SCADA), and includes: The unit itself + a Control Interface Box + a Data Acquisition Board + Data Acquisition and Data Management Software Packages, for controlling the process and all parameters involved in the process.

Currently, the ultrasound therapy is one of the most commonly used. This type of therapy is based on the use of high frequency sound waves to stimulate the tissue beneath the skin’s surface. It is frequently used to ease pain, inflammation and muscular spasms, to quicken the healing process due to its dilator effect, to enhance the cell metabolic activity and for lithotripsy.

The Computer Controlled Biomedical Ultrasound Thermal Effects Teaching Unit, “BIUTEC”, has been designed by EDIBON to study, in an experimental way, the ultrasound effects in biological tissues and acquire the necessary knowledge to design and validate therapeutic ultrasound units.

The unit is supplied with a set of practical exercises that will help the student to understand how to configure a therapeutic ultrasound device.
